Social Stigma- by Sruthi Sajeev

Social Stigma
Yesterday, while I was travelling in a bus which was almost empty, a woman got in carrying a basket full of fish. She sat in one of the seats, as I wondered how such people were allowed in buses. But then, I felt sorry for her and hated myself for thinking like that. But surprisingly, I was not the only one who treated her that way. Nobody else in the bus were ready to sit next to her, though it was closer to the door. It was in fact for some other reasons, rather than the smell of the fish. Yes, it was that kind of social stigma. I got up and sat next to her. She smiled at me.
I did my part. Now it is your turn. Let’s break the Social Stigma!
